The Origins of Balloon Bash
I have seen this game played in several different states with generally the same rules. I'm not sure about the exact origins. I'm sure it had more violent, primal roots where people dragged around huge ball-and-chains until their feet came off, but there's no way to prove that. Modern Balloon Bash is a lot of fun, and fairly safe, though the players may get a few small bruises.
What you will need for Balloon Bash
A 2 foot length of string for each player
A small balloon for each player
A large, flat area
A referee
Rules of Balloon Bash
Each player is given a balloon and a piece of string. They then tie the balloon to one end of the string, and tie the other end around their ankle. There should be at least a foot of string between the balloon and the ankle.
There usually needs to be a referee to insure that things don't get out of hand. This referee will also be in charge of saying "Go!" once everyone has secured a balloon to their ankle. When the referee does say "Go!", the players then attempt to pop the balloons of other players by stepping on the balloons. When a player's balloon is popped, they are out of the game, and must join the peanut gallery. The last player with an un-popped balloon is the winner.
Special Rules for Balloon Bash
- If a player's balloon pops on its own, they are still out.
- If a player's balloon falls off their string, they are out.
- A player cannot touch any balloon with their hands after the referee says "Go!"
- A player must stay within the designated area for play, or they will be called out.
- If another player intentionally pushes another player, they are out.
- There can be multiple winners, which will keep the length of the game down.
